CPT International sees boost in post-lockdown domestic passenger numbers
CTIA welcomed 436,642 domestic passengers (61% of April 2019 volumes) and 28,329 international passengers (14% of April 2019 volumes) through its doors in April 2021.
"Cape Town International Airport is the gateway to tourism in the Western Cape and we are well-positioned to play our part in rebuilding the economy through facilitating trade, travel and tourism in the region.
"The April holiday period was the city’s busiest since the hard lockdown, bringing a much-needed boost to the Western Cape economy. The increase in passenger numbers seen in April are very encouraging and early passenger statistics for May indicate even further growth in domestic passenger numbers for the month," said Mark Maclean, acting general manager at CTIA.
International volumes remain low
"Cape Town still remains a choice destination for international and domestic visitors, however, the international passenger volumes remain low due to the many travel restrictions and regulatory requirements currently placed on international travellers.,” he added. "In addition to the seven domestic airlines, there are currently eight international carriers operating at the airport, with a further nine international carriers indicating a return to service at CTIA during 2021 — with some indicating that they wish to resume international flights as early as 1 June 2021."
The airport has opened its doors to all visitors. Shops and restaurants in the terminal building are now open to all travellers and non-travellers who wish to grab a cup of coffee, a bite to eat or to shop — with all health and safety protocols being followed and strictly adhered to.
Airport users who may not have travelled for some time, are reminded that the Pick-up and Go area at CTIA has been relocated from Parkade 1 and now operates from the ground floor of Parkade 2 on the right-hand side of the airport terminal building (or after the MyCity bus/plaza area when travelling on the central boulevard road). 20 minutes free parking is allocated to all users of this area.
“We wish to extend a sincere thank you to our airport users for their continued patience and support. We always value your guidance and inputs, which is what helps to make this airport an award-winning airport. We continue to strive to make your airport experience a positive one," concluded Maclean.
