DHL Express opens operations centre in Cape Town

Logistics group DHL Express recently opened its Cape Town operations centre to service the growing demand for improved logistics, distribution and international business flexibility in the city. The operations centre's location in Loop Street joins the existing administrative office and customer service point, both of which were inaugurated by the Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille, a few months ago.

Most notable about the operations centre is the addition of two walking couriers, who will be delivering parcels to businesses on foot, as part of the company's commitment to sustainability under their environmental protection programme, GoGreen.

"As a global logistics provider, we move goods and information around the world, and we're very aware of how our business activities affect the environment," says Michael Hartzenberg, operations manager for DHL Express the Western Cape. "Coupled with the existing congestion in the city, we want to limit our environmental impact and the walking couriers is just the first step. We are looking into other greener initiatives across our fleet, to minimise our carbon footprint."
