FedEx chooses Jhb for new office

FedEx Trade Networks, the freight forwarding arm of global shipping giant FedEx Corp, has announced that it has established operations in Johannesburg. As part of the company's global expansion initiative, which began in 2008, it has opened a total of 45 offices throughout Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia.

"We are in the business of providing solutions and that means giving our customers access to the markets that are most important to them," said Fred Schardt, president and CEO of FedEx Trade Networks. "Johannesburg's strategic location at the southern tip of Africa makes it an important air cargo hub. Together with our regional service providers, we will be able to serve the entire African continent from our new office in Johannesburg."

Increased access to global markets

Establishing operations in Johannesburg presents an excellent opportunity for FedEx Trade Networks. As the largest and most populous city in South Africa and one of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the world, Johannesburg is known as the economic and financial centre of the country and is home to the OR Tambo International Airport, the busiest airport on the continent and the air transport hub of Southern Africa. Johannesburg's advanced road and rail network, as well as its City Deep Transport Logistics Hub, the region's largest container depot, have also boosted Johannesburg's reputation as a strong regional centre for freight and logistics.

The new operations in Johannesburg will offer customers increased access to major global markets, both inbound and outbound. Customers will also benefit from the company's wide range of ocean service options and flexible air freight forwarding solutions that employ a variety of value-added services, including the ability to manage their supply chain and control their goods in transit from point of origin to final destination.
