SA's largest organic cellar makes a choice move

Stellar Winery, Africa's largest organic cellar, recently announced the appointment of Distinctive Choice Wines & Spirits as the new local distributor for their sought-after range of wines. The agreement became effective on 1st April 2007.

“We are pleased to have aligned ourselves with such a prestigious distributor who can get our wine into the local market. Due to the increasing demand for Stellar wines, we have in the past encountered frustration on the side of our customers who could not conveniently purchase our range of products,” comments the cellar's brand and marketing manager, Lee Griffin.

Stellar Winery currently exports over 30 brands internationally and, with the appointment of the new distribution network, local wine lovers will now have increased access to the cellar's products.

The new distributor, which already counts a number of major liquor store chains among its clients, offers an integrated marketing, sales, warehousing, distribution and financial service function on a national basis throughout South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland. It has eight warehouses in South Africa.

“We can look forward to seeing Stellar wines on shelves the length and breadth of South Africa,” says Distinctive Choice Wines & Spirits national sales & marketing director Jacques de Witt.

Stocks of the cellar's range of wines has already been delivered to the distributor's depots around the country and distribution of the stock will commence in earnest towards the ends of July.

Stellar Winery is the only cellar in Africa to produce wines that do not have sulphur added and is the first winery in the world to receive Fairtrade accreditation. The Fairtrade Foundation is an international body that awards their to products as a guarantee that producers in developing countries have received a fair deal.

Stellar Winery complies with the standards and terms of trade set by the international foundation's system, including prescribed social and environmental regulations, an agreed price structure and ethical trading practices while the cellar's workforce benefits directly from Fairtrade sales as well as the conditions of employment requirements linked to accreditation.
