President Zuma lauds Cosatu, NUM, Chamber of Mines on agreement
At the meeting, a framework was established to find a solution to end the strikes in the mining industry.
"Our country has a progressive industrial relations framework. Worker and employer rights are guaranteed in the Constitution and we have legislation that sets out how industrial relations should be conducted.
"We are pleased that parties are talking, as it is only through dialogue that we can find solutions to the current wave of strikes," said Zuma.
He urged parties to work towards a speedy solution in order to return the situation in the mining sector - which was the backbone of the economy - to normalcy.
"Government will continue to provide support until a solution is found."
Zuma reiterated the need for improved living conditions for mine workers and urged companies to undertake a renewed focus on implementing the Social and Labour Plan in the Mining Charter.
