SIU investigating dodgy deals worth R5-billion

Times Live says looting, tender fraud and irregular expenditure by government departments are being investigated by the Special Investigating Unit as it tries to track down R5-billion of taxpayers' money that has allegedly been misspent.

According to the Times Live report, the SIU says that about R500-million appears to have vanished from the Department of Land Reform through 36 seemingly fraudulent land grants. So far four KwaZulu-Natal officials and a businessman have been arrested. They are out on bail.
