"The Pan African Parliament will also pay tribute to the Pan African Women's Organisation and its role in liberating South African women," Communications Minister Faith Muthambi said during her media briefing after the Cabinet meeting in Cape Town.
She said the main event will be held in Durban on 9 August.
A number of activities are planned for the month to celebrate the gains made by South Africa in changing the lives of South African women.
Key events mark achievements by exceptional local women and the gains made by all South African women but no details of these events have yet been announced, just a few weeks ahead of the celebrations.
"The Department of Arts and Culture, as the lead department of Women's Month, will also launch the 20 Best Moments for Women during August," Muthambi said.
Women's Month coincides with National Science Week (NSW) that will be launched by the Department of Science and Technology on 2 August.
The NSW 2014, which will last until 9 August, will see citizens participating in a number of science activities across the country.
"These will entail exhibitions, science shows, workshops and lectures," she said. Muthambi said a more detailed programme for National Science Week will be announced soon.
"Cabinet has asked parents, teachers, learners and South Africans in general to be part of the National Science Week 2014," said.
NSW's theme is "Today's science, tomorrow's world".
