Amandla Marine: Fishy patrol fleet tender

Times Live reports that the company in charge of South Africa's research and patrol fleet crashed a government ship - and is now refusing to pay for repairs estimated at up to R15m.

This is the latest exchange in an ongoing row over a R1bn tender for the management of South Africa's fisheries patrol fleet, which polices an ocean area larger than the country. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) wants to issue a new contract to the politically connected empowerment company Sekunjalo.

Documents in the possession of the Sunday Times suggest the row over the lucrative tender is likely to focus on the perceived lack of transformation within the maritime industry.
