The Fortunate 500 Club launched

Many businesses consider it a notable achievement to be on the Fortune500 list, but there's a new club in town that's more about what companies do with their fortune, than about how much revenue they make. The Fortunate 500 Club has been founded by Leap Science & Maths Schools for corporates who want to partner profit and philanthropy.

Situated in the Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng, Leap Science & Maths Schools provide no-fee education to 800 learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. All school costs are covered by grants and donations. Leap is reliant on companies and individuals to continue educating South Africa's future leaders.

In response to the country's education crisis, The Elma Foundation has provided Leap with a matching grant to assist the schools with fundraising. Aimed at helping Leap build its South African donor base and ensure long-term sustainability, the grant commits to matching new donations of R500,000 or more, subject to certain minimal conditions.

This means South African individuals or companies who donate half a million to Leap will, in fact, have donated R1 million.

A different, positive, active voice

As voices of concern and criticism mount, the Fortunate 500 Club gives corporates and citizens a chance to be part of a different, positive, active voice. And give a clear message to South Africans: Your support enables us to support high-quality education for the most disadvantaged young people.

By participating in the challenge grant, individuals and corporates make a statement acknowledging their fortunes, but set an example of using this fortunate position for greater good.
