VUT students return to campus to complete 2020 academic year

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) is pleased to announce that more of its students will - as permitted under Level 2 lockdown - soon return to resume on campus academic activities at the university.

VUT assures all stakeholders – students, parents, guardians, bursars, sponsors and employees – that highly structured plans are in place to ensure our students complete the 2020 academic year.

The university has held ongoing discussions with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) regarding its Covid-19 combat readiness and academic recovery plan and continues to submit fortnightly reports on progress being made in all areas of concern.

Sadly, the university has experienced delays in the procurement and distribution of necessary devices for students due to a national shortage of the equipment being experienced around the country because of the current high demand.

This has, unfortunately, resulted in the DHET placing the university in a ‘high risk category’. We wish to assure all our stakeholders – especially students, their parents and guardians – that we are resolving this and there is no doubt that the academic year will be successfully completed.

VUT is committed to the statement of intent that ‘we shall leave no student behind’ – we have a recovery plan to give all students an equal opportunity to complete their academic programme for the year.

We are proud of having already registered more than 8,500 students for the second semester scheduled to begin on 14 September.

Full details about the planned return to campus and the issuing of permits will be communicated shortly to all concerned.
