Kingsmead girls must have iPads

Times Live reports that parents of pupils at Kingsmead Girls College in Johannesburg have been told that all pupils from Grades 6 to 8 will have to be equipped with an iPad 2 by July. The school, where fees range from R45 000 to R78 000 a year, informed parents of the plan by letter.

According to Lora Foot, information technology manager at Kingsmead, multiple applications are being designed specifically for the South African curricula. Apple's products had been chosen because of the extensive involvement it has with schools throughout the world, Times Live reports.

According to the Times Live report, Apple launched an iBook application allowing teachers to make digital text books using their notes last week. They can include movie clips, photographs and illustrations and even devised interactive quizzes.
