Architects urged to enter for Social Gain Awards
The awards - conceptualised by Saint-Gobain in association with the South African Institute of Architects - aim to recognise and reward talent in the design of spaces that promote learning and development.
The awards embody the spirit of innovation, designed to convey the three facets of the awards, namely People, Buildings and the Planet. Billed to be an icon of excellence for architects entering the awards, the trophies will compliment any awards collection as the winning recipients travel as VIPs to Paris in October.
New judge
It was announced this week that one of the competition's judges, Sindile Ngonyama, has recused himself. Ngonyama has been replaced by award winning architect, Jeremy Rose, director of Mashabane Rose Associates. His built work includes many iconic buildings and includes Freedom Park in Pretoria, Mandela House in Soweto, Liliesleaf Liberation Centre in Rivonia, Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum in Soweto and The Apartheid Museum.
The awards form part of the locally planned activities to commemorate the global 350 year anniversary of Saint-Gobain. Interested architects must ensure their digital entries are submitted electronically on www.social-gain.co.za by no later than 30 June 2015.
