IDC urges motor sector to create jobs

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) wants to use the automotive industry to create badly-needed jobs in South Africa according to a report published in Business Report.

IDC spokesman, Mandla Mpangase, claims that the motor sector is increasing its production in the light of additional export contracts and the IDC was encouraging component suppliers to take advantage of the IDC's facilities to boost jobs.

The IDC made R6,1 billion available to support distressed component manufacturers during the global financial crisis and while many had used the assistance, only R4 billion of the R6 billion had been disbursed.

Business Report says that one company, Ramsay Engineering, a company based in Pietermaritzburg that makes metal, steel, plastic and leatherette components had benefited from the IDC's assistance scheme and had created 100 jobs as a result.
