New album from Chris Chameleon

Chris Chameleon's new album builds on the creative energy that Ingrid Jonker's lyrics instilled in him. The compositions in "As Jy Weer Skryf" are upbeat and heartfelt and there are also songs that fearlessly visit the darker side of Jonker's work.

"Six years after the release of my first Afrikaans album, "Ek Herhaal Jou" - a composition of Ingrid Jonker's poems, I am still inspired and fascinated by her verse forms. I still experience the same emotional intensity that I felt the first time that I read and fully understood her work," Chris Chameleon said.

"As Jy Weer Skryf" is an in-depth exemplar of Chameleon's evolution as an artist over the past six years. The combination of his vocal capabilities with complex instrumentation gives way to a much richer sound. "As Jy Weer Skryf" was recorded in March 2011 at Belville Studios under the guidance of award-winning music producer, Theo Crous.

Even though there are a variety of musical styles on the album, Chameleon's distinctive singing manner places his own stamp on every song. The flowing nature of his pure falsetto voice is occasionally used (he also does all the backing vocals) and reminds the listener of his vocal ability.

Songs like Kabouterliefde, Tokkelos and Ek Het Gedink are perfect examples of Chameleon's highly original approach to Jonker's popular poems.
