Music workshops for football tourists

The Music Department of the University of Pretoria and the Joburg Promusica Theatre, Roodepoort are offering the opportunity, to international guests as well as locals, to play a marimba, mbira or djembe drum in an African music ensemble. The workshops start today, 14 June and end on 18 June, 2010 in Florida Park, Joburg.

These fun, team-building workshop sessions on African music will be presented under the leadership of Michael Sibanda, a well-known marimba and djembe band leader in South Africa, and Richard Muranda, an expert on the mbira (finger piano).

Anyone interested in music is welcome, no prior skills in music are required to take part.

Venue: Joburg Promusica Threatre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Street, Florida Park.

Times: There are three separate sessions per day, so just choose which day (14 to 18 June) and which session you'd like to attend:

  • Session 1: 8.30am to 10.30am
  • Session 2: 11.30am to 1.30pm
  • Session 3: 2.30pm to 4.30pm

The first 30 minutes of each session will be taken up with registration.

Please book well in advance, because only 35 participants can be accommodated per session. Extra dates and sessions may be added, depending on demand.

Fee: R200 per person per session.

For bookings contact: Christine Lesenyeho +27 (0)73 073 1149 or Zenda Nel +27 (0)82 460 6534.
