Burning Soul in Cape Town

A new show, Burning Soul, will be reintroducing the soul phenomenon of the 1960s to early 1970s to Cape Town. Burning Soul will run between Friday, 2 April and Saturday, 15 May, 2010, at the GrandWest Roxy Revue Bar, Wednesday through to Saturday.

The multi-talented cast of the All Star Soul Band includes Ryan Meyer on guitar, Dylan Roman on the keyboard, Larnelle Gordon on drums and Manuel Don Jardine on the saxophone. On vocals there is Theodore Plaatjies, Abigail Bagley as well as Rashaad Adams.

Powerful vocals

With its roots in gospel music, soul soon stirred a growing fan base with its deep, moving lyrics accompanied by powerful male and female vocals.

You will be hearing songs like Mustang Sally by the Commitments, Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding and the timeless You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin.

To understand why this music consistently topped the charts between 1963 and 1973, don't miss Burning Soul.

Tickets are available at Computicket (www.computicket.co.za) at R67. Doors open at 8pm and the curtain rises at 8.30pm. On Saturdays, there will be an additional show starting at 5pm.
