Amanda Tiffen to perform at Jazz In The Park 2010

The Mother City's golden-voiced jazz songstress, Amanda Tiffin will once again lend her talents to a worthy cause. On 7 March, Amanda and her crew of Cape Town's finest Jazz talent will be swinging in the Park at Maynardville Open Air Amphitheatre in Wynberg, to raise funds for the Health & Wellness Centre for Persons with Disabilities. This event, which began in 2008 as a fund-raising experiment, has now become an annual favourite on Cape Town's jazz calendar.

Amanda and her littleBIGband will take audiences on an unforgettable trip down memory lane with a selection of the world's best-loved jazz standards. The afternoon will also showcase some extra special guests - acclaimed, award-winning a cappella group Not The Midnight Mass will grace the stage with their unique brand of vocal harmony and madcap humour.

Amanda's powerful voice and ivory-tickling skills will be complimented by some of her long-time musical collaborators: Bassist Shaun Johannes will once again lay down the groove, joined by well-known drum virtuoso Frank Paco. Jeremy Olivier will soothe with his velvet voice, and lyrical guitar playing, and Marc De Kock will contribute his rich and silky saxophone tones on soprano, alto and tenor saxophones. Completing the ensemble will be trumpet maestro Lee Thomson.

Amanda will also be giving some of her Jazz Vocal students an opportunity to strut their stuff with some jazz and contemporary numbers in a special student showcase. Sandile Gontsana (recently seen in Summertime and Noah of Cape Town) will feature, alongside some of UCT's best Jazz vocalists.

All performers will be donating their time and talents free of charge, and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Health and Wellness Centre for people with disabilities.

Tickets for Jazz in the Park are R80 each, with a discount for pensioners, scholars, students, and block bookings. Free entrance to children under 7. The show starts at 14H30 pm. Book through Computicket at all Shoprite/Checkers outlets or phone 0839158000. For more information call Lucia 082 927 5123 or Alta 0826038261.
