Kirstenbosch Chamber Music Concert: Edward MacLean, Valdes Fur

The fourth concert on 2 August 2009 in the current Chamber Music Breakfast Concert series sees award winning musicians Edward MacLean, co-principal cellist in the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Valdes Fur on piano who will present works by Brahms, Fare, Piazzolla for cello and piano.

The Kirstenbosch Tea Room, with The Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden and generous sponsorship from Pick n Pay present this third winter season which is already proving so popular that it is advisable to book early.

McLean will delight with his masterful rendition of Fauré's Elegie Op 24, Brahms Cello Sonata in E Minor Op 38 and the lively Piazzolla composition Le Grande Tango. In some contrast Valdes Fur will treat the audience to Gershwin's three preludes for piano which are typical of early 20th Century American classical music, infused with a jazz flavor. Both these award winning musicians bring a wonderful resonance to the Thatch Hall venue

What more could one want on a winter Sunday morning: a walk in the beautiful Kirstenbosch Garden, a deliciously appetising breakfast and a delightfully intimate Chamber Music concert featuring the top of our talents.

The series continues until 30 August with a superb line up - all giving this winter season a very special edge. Each of the ensembles offers a programmed which is caters to a diverse range of classical music lovers.

The Thatch Hall is the perfect venue for these recitals, offering warmth and intimacy in the glorious garden setting of Kirstenbosch.

Breakfast is served on the verandah adjoining the hall from 09h30 until 10h45 and the plentiful array of food its testament to the team led by Pamela Shippel from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room generous spirit. A complimentary glass of bubbly ushers you into an experience to be savored long after the last note has died away.

To avoid disappointment bookings are recommended as there is limited seating.

Ticket price is R150 per concert (by collecting your ticket directly from the Kirstenbosch Ticket office you can save R10) which includes entry into the garden, breakfast and entry to Kirstenbosch.

Breakfast is served from 9h30 to 10h45 and the concert is from 11h00 to 12h00.
