Gangs Of Ballet on Form
It was really fun, we all love being in the studio for a start - and the team we worked with made it even better.
What's the meaning behind the title?
We have recently become a three-piece band and we have literally had to start from scratch figuring out how to play and write with one less person - so the meaning behind the title is breaking things down to their basic form and then rebuild.
If this EP could be described as a meal, what would it be and why?
I definitely have to go with a hamburger, shoved in a chicken, wrapped in a pizza and then deep fried. I'll leave you to figure that one out, haha!
Do you have any particularly favourite songs off the EP?
My personal favourites are Seven and Nylon.
How would you say the band and sound has grown and developed over the years?
I think our song writing has matured a lot. We have really tried to push ourselves on this new record. On our last album we basically tracked every song we had and that was our album. For 'Form & Function' we have written close to 40 ideas and are still writing. So my hope is that people will hear some growth in the new material.
What has it been like adjusting from a foursome to a trio?
Difficult, but really fun and exactly what we needed. We really miss H, but we have embraced the new smaller format. It has pushed the three of us to work even harder on our craft in order for us to pull these songs off live, without running piles of tracks. It's funny in that we have had some of our worst and best shows ever with this three piece.
What have been some of your musical highlights?
There are a few that stand out, from hearing our songs for the first time on radio to playing in front of 30,000 people at a sold out JHB Day, but a recent highlight was opening for One Republic.
What's next for GOB?
The plan is to tour with this album and then try our hand overseas sometime soon.
