Tokai gets improved shopping experience in 2012

The redevelopment of the Blue Route Mall in Tokai will create 56000m² of retail and entertainment space when it opens in April 2012. It represents one of the largest commercial building contracts in the province to date and is owned by Fountainhead Property Trust. The 160m frontage on Tokai Road provides a futuristic façade and is well situated to take advantage of the high commuter volumes that use the M3, Main Road, Tokai Road and also public transport.

    Retailers adding to exciting mix

Many of the national retailers are upgrading stores for this development, including the double volume Woolworth's concept store, which is adding a W-café; a Foschini Emporium, which houses all its brands under one roof; an upgraded Checkers/Hyper; and Dischem. DionWired makes its debut in this area.

    Foodies, movies catered for

Top food chains have signed up including Spur, Primi Piatti, Mugg and Bean, Wimpy, Pie City, KFC and Marcel's Frozen Yoghurt, with the food court showcasing views of the Constantiaberg Mountains. The eight cinema Ster-Kinekor complex includes 3D as well as 1054 comfortable seats.

"The new Mall was conceptualised to meet the need for a larger scale retail and entertainment offering in the Tokai area. It is set to bring the best tenant choices to this region, something long overdue for many residents who previously had to travel long distances to have access to good variety and their favourite brands," says Trevor Matthews of Fountainhead Property Trust. "The letting of the new mall is progressing very well with signed leases representing 92% of the new gross lettable area. The mall will go beyond the sphere of retail, offering shoppers endless possibilities and regaining its iconic stature in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs," he concludes.
