Women vote for their favourite cars
"We are pleased with this year's competition and the results," says Charleen Clarke, president of the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists and convenor of the WOW judging panel. "The new WOW website and activity on social networks Twitter and Facebook resulted in increased reader involvement, which made it easy for us to choose the winners."
The judging panel for this year's award was Charleen Clarke joined by jury members Heléne Griffiths and Lindsay Vine from DStv's Ignition, motoring blogger Vuyi Jabavu, award-winning motoring journalist Peta Lee, MotorMania editor Mabuyane Kekana and Janine-Lee Gordon from City Press.
Fun cars and dream cars
The Chevrolet Spark was voted Best Budget Car, the BMW 5 series Best Executive Car while women believe the Best Fun Car to be the Citroën DS3. In the category for MPV's and Wagons the Mazda5 came out tops and in the category for SUV's the Range Rover Evoque walked away with the honours.
The Volkswagen Golf attracted most votes as the Best Eco-friendly Car and when it came to the luxury and more expensive cars, the Audi R8 Spyder and Maserati Grancabrio were voted as the Best Convertible and Best Dream Drive cars respectively. The winner of the category Best Value for Money Car was decided by the panel of judges comparing the price of the car with what the car has to offer. All finalists in the other categories were automatically entered and the winner of this award was the Hyundai Sonata.
