Ready to fly Salo?

Formula One racing legend Mika Salo is set to host the South African edition of Test My Ride at the Killarney International Raceway.
Ready to fly Salo?

This fast-paced and furious car show pits amateur car enthusiasts and their beloved rides against an F1 driver on a professional racetrack. Voted the best TV format in Finland in 2013, this hugely popular series has blasted its way through six seasons in Finland and two in Germany, and will be heading to our motor-mad shores this October.

If you've always dreamt of taking on a pro in the ride you've spent your life making just perfect for you, now's your chance to do so under the cool, Scandinavian gaze of a man once ranked amongst the top ten drivers in the world.

Hosted in combination with Killarney's epic Street2Strip on 'Fast Fridays', spectators will watch as contenders selected from SA's top street racers and race car drivers attempt to beat the time set by the former F1 driver, in their own car. The show is co-hosted by racing champion and SA record-holder, Ernest Page. Mika Salo will be thrown in behind the wheel of an enthusiast's pimped-out beast for one lap, before the owner gets a bash at beating Mika's time. Winner takes it all.

After a little high-octane hell-raising, the ultimate champion enthusiasts ride will be subjected to Mika's icy scrutiny, before the flying Finn straps a lucky draw winner from the crowd into the passenger seat and takes to the tarmac for a drag run display of a lifetime against one of Cape Town's top drag racers.

South African Producer, Patrick Walton of ShootAway Production comments, "This is a great opportunity to showcase our local talent on an international stage. It has taken two years to bring this format to Cape Town. My Finnish partners and I are excited about this and future series in other regions and countries."

"It is great to make the Test My Ride English version in amazing Cape Town! The format has been very popular in Finland and Germany, and the English version is a great opportunity to go to the next level!" adds Pasi Riiali, Producer, Mediafactory Dakar Ltd.

Crowds of up to 2 500 are expected for the finale on Friday, 2 October at Killarney Raceway, and have the opportunity to meet the man himself, Mika Salo.
