Ho ho ho and a bottle o' Boswell

I've been to many a Boswell Wilkie Circus growing up and when I think circus I picture a huge tent with a ring in the middle, clowns running about, prancing ponies, jugglers, acrobats, more clowns and candy floss. The circus currently running at the Grand West's Big Arena is a whole lot more. Flashy lights, sword fights, mermaids, cannon balls, fire breathing and a little ho ho ho and a bottle o' rum are all part of the show. So if this gets your sea legs tapping, then grab yer matey's and go peer into the depths.

It's great fun for the kids on holiday who were more than excited to be there. The wee ones were jumping out their seats, dancing and singing along - making me long to be five years old again. There was plenty of interaction with the crowd as pirates dressed up in bright pinks and yellows and blues seemed to show up from every direction doing a dance here and there and drawing swords with their enemies from time to time. There's a great story line to follow as well if you're paying attention and as in all good fairytales, the good guys triumphed in the end.

In between the drunken juggler and roll about tumblers and synchronised sweepers were dazzling, awesome acrobats performing outrageous manoeuvres at incredible heights. I found myself holding my breath at times waiting for the worst to happen, but these are professional artists who didn't put a foot wrong. It was great entertainment on a Thursday night that everyone who's young at heart will thoroughly enjoy.

The Boswell Wilkie Circus: Pirate Experience runs till 19 July 2009 at the Grand West Grand Arena. Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday start at 19h30. Matinees will be performed on Saturday and Sunday at 15h00 and doors open one hour prior to each show. Tickets are available from Computicket.
