The 5th Vodacom Funny Festival runs at the Baxter Theatre from 15th June to 19th July for a five-week season with a strong cast of local and international stand up comedians.
The 5th Vodacom Funny Festival

The award-winning show, anchored by Cape Town's favourite son, Marc Lottering, showcases the skill of three top international specialty acts and a selection of the best stand-ups the country has to offer.

The popular festival was recently awarded Official Event status by Cape Town's tourism authorities, the only comedy project in the city to have received the accolade.

Multi award-winning Japanese physical comedy duo, Gamarjobat make their first appearance on African soil, as do the UK hit musical team of The Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue. US magician John Lenahan completes the international contingent. They are joined by comedy giants Nik Rabinowitz, Trevor Noah and Johannesburg sensation Tumi Morake.

The confirmed line-up is as follows:

Master of Ceremonies - Marc Lottering - Cape Town's favourite son. He performed the task so well last year, that he wanted to do it again!! - appears every night

Tumi Morake - Johannesburg's top female comic, has taken the industry by storm with her sharp wit and attentive eye - appears every night

John Lenahan - direct from the US, a mind reader and magician of note, who has had many TV specials to his name. John originally grabbed he headlines as the first person to be expelled from the Magic Circle for exposing secrets of the trade. He took the rap and enjoyed the publicity. John will leave you mesmerized with his skills - appears every night

Nik Rabinowitz - multi-lingual Nik has quickly become one of the country's most sought after entertainers and one of its top comics - appears every night

Gamarjobat - direct from Tokyo, this hilarious physical comedy duo will transcend anything you think you know about clowning, magic and mine. Without a word, Gamarjobat leave their audience speechless with laughter. They are the favourites at the Edinburgh Festival each year, winning coveted awards annually - Gamarjobat perform from 15 June - 1 July only

The Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue - Direct from London, they are a hit where ever they perform. The duo headlines all the comedy clubs in London and consistently brings the house down. Their entire act involves them miming out snatches of lyrics from a fast-cut montage of songs - taking every line ridiculously literally. They perform from 2-19 July only.

Trevor Noah - has quickly amassed a large following with his unique and fresh brand of comedy. He is rated as one of the heavyweights of South African comedy - performs every night

Jonathan Hearns - is an accomplished actor and has assisted in creating a hilarious vibe in the audience during the show. Beware, he is behind a couple of surprises during the showod" Metro

The festival has a strong outreach program, entitled the Vodacom Hleka Hleka Festival, which plays at the popular Mzoli's Restaurant in Gugulethu over three free Sunday lunchtime/afternoon performances, namely 21st and 28th June, and 5th July.
