Hilton Durban chosen as FIFA HQ

The Hilton Durban has been chosen as FIFA's headquarters for the World Cup, but is still able to entice corporate and leisure travellers with competitive rates over the June and July World Cup period.

"There is a general perception that flights and accommodation in South Africa over the World Cup period are either limited or expensive, however this is not the case," said Gerhard Patzer, GM of Hilton Durban. "Low-cost carriers are still offering reasonably priced fares between Durban and other host cities, and we at Hilton Durban have competitive rates with late and early check-in options."

Durban is just a short flight away from all the major cities in South Africa. As one of the warmest places to visit during the South African winter, the hotel sees an influx of guests during this period every year. This year is no different, and Durban is expected to have even more local and international tourists with seven of the World Cup games being played in the city. Despite the World Cup fever, Durban has plenty more to offer visitors including warm beaches, coastal forests, great restaurants and the UShaka Marine World.

    Minutes from Moses Mabhida stadium

Hilton Durban is located just a few minutes away from the Moses Mabhida stadium and other Durban hot spots, making it an ideal location for football fans and holidaymakers alike. Also linked to the International Convention Centre, the hotel is perfectly situated for corporate guests visiting the hotel on business.

"Hilton Durban will be the headquarters hotel for FIFA during the World Cup and the team is very excited about hosting such high-calibre guests. However, we do still have availability to accommodate outside guests over this period," said Patzer.

"Business and leisure activities in South Africa will continue as normal. We have a range of on-site leisure and business facilities including sumptuous cuisine at Rainbow Terrace, live entertainment at Rivets, multiple meeting rooms, the Polo Lounge and Business Centre.

    Special events

In June and July, Hilton Durban will host a series of special events for in-house and outside guests. Large-screen TVs will be erected for those not able to watch the World Cup games live at the stadia. We are looking forward to the World Cup and are fully prepared to welcome all guests," said Patzer.

Room rates start at R2337.50 per night for a double room for two people (*terms and conditions apply).
