World's largest fitness boot camp

Robin Buck, a Cape Town-based certified strength and conditioning specialist and physiotherapist, runs a lifestyle programme called Fitness Boot Camp. He has recently been selected as running one of the top fitness boot camp programmes in the world and will be a remote site for the first ever Workout Worldwide.

Participants can be part of this World Record attempt by joining him for a boot camp workout at the University of Cape Town in Rondebosch on Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at 18h00. An attempt will be made to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest simultaneous boot camp workout worldwide.

It will be the world's largest international charity fitness boot camp workout of all time where all net proceeds are to be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa. There will be over 50 international locations worldwide performing the workout on the same day with all proceeds being donated to their respective country's heart association.

Buck claims: “We know that without proper nutrition and regular intensive exercise the body breaks down into a state of disease. The chronic illnesses that develop from lack of movement and poor dietary habits account for over 650 deaths per day in South Africa. These chronic diseases are the second highest killer in South Africa and come at a tremendous cost to the country. The positive message is that these deaths and costs are preventable.

It is important to note that it is not just the families, but also businesses and the whole country that bear the brunt of chronic illness. The whole point of this event is to send a clear message to people regarding the effect their behaviour has on both themselves and society at large. If you really care about your family and your country, the best thing you can do is take care of your health.”

The workout will feature a time efficient total body weight loss workout to provide a jump-start to one's New Year fitness resolutions - a fitness programme catering to busy professionals that can easily be continued in the days, weeks and months to come.

Various prizes will be raffled out following the 20-minute high-intensity interval workout, include free 3, 6 and 12 month Fitness Boot Camp memberships.

Buck says, “All attendees will receive a digital home fitness training system that only requires 30 minutes of your time three days per week with no need for fancy, expensive equipment. It's truly a small investment of time for the dramatic benefits that a regular intensive exercise regimen can have on your overall health, performance, and body composition.

Of course, the best results will occur in a tried and proven fitness boot camp where there is a lot of social support and accountability. These exciting group exercise formats are much more cost-effective than personal training. The fact is that most people don't have the discipline to be able to workout on their own day in and day out - they need the supervision and the support!”

Local businesses can also get involved. Those that make a donation will earn their employees free access to the event and will also receive a complimentary fitness “lunch and learn”. They will also be put into a raffle to win free corporate fitness boot camp training sessions on-site at their business.
