Colour in the Sun heads to Carnival City

On 16 December 2016, Colour in the Sun will take place at Carnival City. Inspired by India's traditional Holi colour festival, the event will feature several local DJs and much colourful, powdered entertainment.

Confirmed artists and DJs include Dj Zan D, Infinite Boys, Major League Dj's, Dimplez, Sterra on Percussion, Shorts Da Deejay and Morgan Beat Box. More featured artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

    Festival origins

Colour in the Sun promotes unity and equality while celebrating youth, togetherness and fun. This festival derives from an ancient Hindu festival celebrating springtime, love and, of course, colours. It has recently spread from its origins in India and Nepal to parts of Europe as a non-religious day to reflect equality and togetherness. Against a festive backdrop of song and dance, participants play, chase and colour each other with bright, dry powders.

All colours consist of corn starch and an aromatic substance. The colourants differentiate per colour. Aromatic substances include lavender, lavender oil, sage, dill, 2-undecanone, chamomile, rosemary, rosemary oil and acetic acid. The colours are red, green, pink, orange, blue and yellow.
