Erica Green to team up with Willie Engelbracht as team Absa Legends

The ideal mix of beauty and brawn, the Absa Legends team will be taking on this year's Absa Cape Epic as a formidable mixed team, fusing the innate talent of Erica Green with the solid sporting credentials of Willie Engelbrecht.

Undoubtedly one of South Africa's most prominent female cycling athletes, Erica Green will be riding the Absa Cape Epic for her third consecutive year, cycling not only for Team Absa but also for South Africa's leading sports and education charity, the JAG Foundation.

An accomplished athlete in both the mountain biking and racing scene since 1992, Erica has represented SA in both disciplines at numerous international events ? most notably the 1996 Atlantic Olympic Games (road and mountain bike) and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games (mountain bike).

In addition to her duties as a professional coach and her involvement in a host of charity projects, Erica is determined to complete this year's Epic with aplomb, leading the way with her charismatic attitude and determined approach.

“Myself and my partner Willie Engelbrecht, have been training together about twice a week,” Erica comments. “However, it's still been difficult to find a balance between training, my work and charity commitments and my family - having two kids (Timothy aged 5 and Stefani aged 3) means it's very difficult to get everything done!”

A passionate mother, accomplished coach, tireless charity worker and hopefully, a 2009 Cape Epic champion, Erica Green is undoubtedly a fearless competitor and a contender to watch in this year's race.

For those not participating in the full race, organisers of the Absa Cape Epic are putting out a call for entries into the one-day mountain bike race, the MTN Cape Times Vigne à Vigne, or the Lourensford Cape Times Vineyard Run. Both races take place at the Lourensford Wine Estate, the finish venue of the Absa Cape Epic, on the last day of the eight-day race.
