Peace Lovers FC qualify for last 32 stage of the Nedbank Cup

Limpopo's Peace Lovers FC today ensured their inclusion in the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup when they beat City Tigers FC 3-2 after extra-time to complete the SAFA quarter of 8 teams at Ackerville Stadium, Emalahleni (Witbank). A brace by Bongo Baloyi (19th, 50th mins) and Solomon Phala (96th) were enough to wrap this closely contested game. Tigers scored through Shimane "Tropika" Danse (51st) and Gift Mashiachidi (68th).

Page Mahlangu, the Coach of City Tigers says of the game: "The players have themselves to blame for failing to convert our chances. Our defence played a foolish game because they were caught napping, especially in the second goal that gave Lovers a 2-0 lead."

Jacky "Styles" Ledwaba, Coach of Peace Lovers, says: "Now that we have qualified for the last 32, my wish is to be drawn against one of the big teams whether its Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United will be all fine. I have good players who need the football exposure to scouts if we beat one these big names. Myself I was exposed to Premier League football in a similar tournament when I still playing for Seshego Naughty Boys FC in a game against Jomo Cosmos in 1997. Going in this game, I told my players that they must not approach this game as as war but must concentrate at playing their normal game."

SAFA Chairman of the Competions Committee, Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko says: "What a good advert of football, it's just a pity that there were no talent scouts to see the great talent that we watched today. Both teams played their hearts out and the crowd was commendably vocal and was just what the doctor ordered.

In congratulating both teams for an outstanding performance, I think the best team of the day won and I believe Peace Lovers will host the flag of the amatuer football high against any of the other 31 teams that they can be drawn, where I think they can hold their own. I also give special thanks to the referees for the sterling job in the handling of the game."

The Last 32 draw of fixtures will be held by the Premier Soccer League at Netbank, Sandton Monday morning.
