Kraken Rum & Rolling Stone Rockstarter finalists announced

Kraken Black Spiced Rum has announced that Cortina Whiplash and Ballistic Blues are this year's Rolling Stone Rockstarter finalists. The final decision proved a particularly tough one for the judges who, faced with 56 impressive entries, finally whittled it down to the two bands that stood out at their respective gigs in Joburg and Cape Town.

Ballistic Blues are a young, unique and energetic four-piece blues-rock band consisting of Tyan Odendal (lead guitar and back-up vocals), JP le Roux (bass), Nicholas Forbes (lead vocals) and Francois Keyser (drums). Cortina Whiplash, who describe themselves as an "all-seeing, omnipotent, six-legged she-monster birthed out of the fallopian tube of rock 'n roll", are constituted of Loandi Boersma (lead vocals/bass guitar), Auriel Lefebre (tamborine/drums/backing vocals), and Tessa Lily (guitar/flute/organ/backing vocals).

The winning band will receive an album recording, perform at multiple events, feature in Rolling Stone Magazine SA and become Kraken Black Spiced Rum rock ambassadors for a year.

"Rocking it out" at the Oppikoppi Festival

As an added bonus, both bands will also be given the opportunity of "rocking it out" at the Oppikoppi Festival in August, where fans will be able to experience the two finalists live on stage. The competition winner will be announced at a special gig at Mercury Live in Cape Town on 15 August, 2013. Tickets are R20 at the door. Doors open at 7pm and prizes including Kraken Black Spiced Rum bottles and hampers will be given away on the evening.
