When Zolani met Zoid

Musicians Karen Zoid (South African Music Award winner for Best Female Artist) and Zolani Mahola (lead singer of the Grammy-winning Freshlyground) are set to perform an unplugged session at the Fugard Theatre in Cape Town on 10 and 11 October.
When Zolani met Zoid

Mahola, who studied drama at the University of Cape Town and joined Freshlyground in 2002, is one of South Africa's most popular and recognisable singers. Last year, she performed in a reading of While We're Not Apart, a play written especially for her by French writer Eudes Panel. Mahola has also been involved with Mzfitz, a band that allows her to explore musical territory beyond Freshlyground's Afro-pop sound.

Popular appeal and critical praise

Since releasing her first solo album in 2002, Zoid has become an important part of the local rock scene. She has managed to balance popular appeal with critical praise and has been supported by both Afrikaans and English fans. She was named Best Female Artist at the 2008 South African Music Awards and has shared a stage with international acts like John Mayer, Annie Lennox, Metallica, Simple Plan, Seal, and UB40.

Tickets start at R110 and can be purchased from Computicket or by calling the Fugard Theatre box office on +27 (0)21 461 4554. Generous discounts are available for Friends of the Fugard, which you can sign up for by calling the box office or by going to www.thefugard.com
