    Joburg Clean Up Day

Clean Up Day will take place on Saturday 5 June 2010, which coincides with World Environmental Day. Its primary objective is to change the Joburgers' mindset as well as to showcase a cleaner Joburg. The date is six days prior to the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament kick-off.

The City of Johannesburg's waste management company Pikitup is engaging with Johannesburg residents to determine the most appropriate sites which will be announced in mid May. All citizens that want to participate in the Clean Up Day are requested to register on the website. Organisations and groups from across the city of Joburg can register their own clean-up sites on the website and the company will provide them with the necessary support and resources to aid their clean up efforts. The campaign will be promoted through print and broadcast media.

"Our intention is to clean the more prominent dirty spots that may reflect badly on our image as a city, we only have one chance to make a good impression to the world during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, let's show them a cleaner world class African city," says Zami Nkosi, MD of Pikitup.

Follow the campaign on Facebook, Twitter and the website www.pikitup.co.za.
