Alek Wek ''The Face'' of Cape Town Fashion Week

Alek Wek, the Sudan born African beauty synonymous with high fashion and international runways, has been confirmed as " The Face" of Cape Town Fashion Week 2004.

Says convener Gavin Rajah, "Our association with a supermodel of this stature catapults Cape Town Fashion Week into a different league. We identified Alek as the Face of Cape Town Fashion Week as this African beauty is not only a role model but an inspirational success story for the African continent.  Alek personifies the core purpose of Fashion Week, namely, the successful business of fashion."

Alek's participation at Cape Town Fashion Week will include its launch on 17th August, the Anglo Gold Ashanti Show also on the 17th as well as the opening of the South African Airways Designer Collection on Saturday, 21st August and Sunday, 22nd August. Here, the best designs from selected participating designers will be showcased to an audience of 1200 guests.

At present, 43 participating South African designers are busying themselves with preparations for this year's opening of the largest and most prestigious fashion platform, which is Cape Town Fashion Week. The line-up of collections includes such designers as Sun Goddess, Jenni Button, the Anglogold Ashanti jewellery designer competition, Stoned Cherrie, as well as emerging Nigerian and Namibian designers in their own separate shows, together with the best designers taken from Kenyan Fashion Week.
