Thuto Masihleho - From events intern to project coordinator
At the start of this year we were lucky enough to take on the incredible Thuto Masihleho as our events intern, and we are immensely proud to announce that this year she was promoted to the position of project coordinator just six months into her intern contract. With her infectious positivity, eye for detail, and impressive work ethic, we’re very proud to have Thuto on board as a permanent member of our team. Here’s what she had to say about the last few months, her new role, and her plans for the future.
What excites you most about your new position, and what are you looking forward to most?
I’m really looking forward to being responsible for more things, and to challenging myself, and I think that I’ll have more opportunities to show what my capabilities are than I did in my previous role. I’m really just excited for the journey ahead and the continuation of my personal growth – I can’t wait to see how far I get, and just how quickly I can get there!
What's your favourite part about working at Worx Group?
Definitely the people: The teams and individuals of the Worx Group family really make for an incredible environment, atmosphere, and energy in the office, and they’ve really given me the chance to grow. I love that you can be an individual here, while still being supported as a team. Plus, the office itself is so bright and warm, with the best vibe – the bosses wear jeans!
What’s been the highlight of your time here so far?
Becoming a project coordinator! The time I spent as an intern was shorter than most, and I really worked my butt off, and I’m proud that that obviously showed. I never intended to chill out: I came here to work hard and to progress.
What was the biggest thing you learnt as a Worx Group intern?
I think it was understanding my position and how I fitted into the bigger picture. I learnt a lot about understanding and working with different characters, and also about myself as an individual. I learnt a lot about the corporate field in events, and I loved being exposed to this side of events.
What would your advice be for other interns?
I’d really advise people to be themselves. There’s no point in coming into a field that you’re not genuinely interested in, especially because a lot of internships (not including this one) don’t pay, so be sure to do your research beforehand so that you understand what you’re getting yourself into. Passion shows above all else, and it also makes everything more fun!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Definitely much further in terms of my position, and I also hope to have grown a lot more both as an individual and as part of the team. I’d love to be leading my own team by then! Or at least being able to be a support for my team at a much higher level. Who knows, maybe I’ll be the boss of this whole place!
