January PPI up 2.7%

Producer Price Inflation (PPI), which is the price of goods leaving factories and mines, came in at 2.7% for January 2010, reported Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) on Thursday, 25 February 2010.

This is 2.0 percentage points higher than the corresponding annual rate of 0.7% in December 2009.

Stats SA said the increase in PPI was as a result of increases in the indices for forestry, mining and quarrying, products of petroleum and coal as well as transport.

However, these were partially counteracted by decreases in agriculture, beverages and paper and paper products.
