The Plantation Shutter Co goes “green”
As of June 2009, The Plantation Shutter Co became what it believes to be the first shutter manufacturer in South Africa (and one of the few in the building and related industries), to move its entire finishing process away from solvent-based coatings to a water-based finish. This has resulted in The Plantation Shutter Co being approved by international assessor Ecospecifier. Ecospecifier is an independent ratings organisation for green building materials, based in Australia. In addition to this, The Plantation Shutter Co is also a member of the Green Building Council of South Africa.
100% eco-friendly
William Duk said: “We are working with Becker Acroma, the world leaders in water-based finishes. They are considered the Rolls Royce of coatings. Water-based coatings are 100% eco-friendly. This change is timed with the arrival of our state-of-the-art automatic spray line, which has been produced in Italy by Giardina. Receiving this international recognition by changing to a water-based coating, is affirmation that we're on the right track, and it is testament to our company's philosophy of commitment to the environment and our customers.”
To add to this, The Plantation Shutter Co says it is the only national supplier that manufactures its shutters in South Africa, using only certified high-quality timber from select sawmills, which harvest the timber in a legal and sustainable manner. The focus is on quality and attention to detail.
The advantages of timber shutters are vast. They have natural insulating qualities that are widely acknowledged, compared to other window or door treatments. Shutters insulate in winter and keep the heat at bay during summer, with the bonus of total control when it comes to light and ventilation. For more information, go to www.plantation.co.za.
