SA textile industry must raise its game

With reference to The Times' Jacquie Myburgh's column “Why Darkie label doesn't stick” (19 February), I can totally relate to Themba's frustrations.

The South African textile industry is a joke. They forget that it's a very competitive industry.

I have placed orders with local factories and been told story after story.

In India, Thailand, China or Vietnam, factories fight for orders. They mean business. They don't rely on their governments for unethical quota limitation laws.

I've seen factories in Asia, the same size as in Cape Town, produce four or six times more than their Cape counterparts.

If the South African textile industry wants to survive, they need to raise their game.

Local factories don't care about your deadlines, forgetting that they need you, the client, for their business to survive.
