Caxton expands launch of glossy community magazines

Escalating recognition of community newspapers as a highly effective media format persuaded Caxton Publishers & Printers to take the 'community paper' formula to the next level by launching 'Get It', a freestanding, A4, glossy community magazine. The localised, and area-specific content includes lifestyle topics such as gardening, décor, fashion, beauty and cooking.

The Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB), representing the Caxton Publishers & Printers' initiative, has powered ahead with a national roll out programme ensuring communities countrywide have access to this sleek, pioneering, neighbourhood publication.

The first of it's kind, Get It launched mid-July in Newcastle with a 10 000 circulation and Caxton followed this in October with a schedule of Get It launches - 90 000 copies distributed through the West Rand, Bedfordview, Edenvale, Germiston, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Bryanston and Fourways. Also rolled out were the Southern Suburbs, Far North and Far North East including Brakpan, Springs and Nigel, Boksburg, Benoni and Kempton Park, Randburg, Northcliff, Sandown, Hyde Park, Rosebank, Killarney and Houghton.

"Communities and advertisers are demanding the publications and although we are coping, it is a struggle to keep up. We can't help being excited about the publication's future potential," says Marco Velosa, National Advertising Sales Manager of Get It magazines.

"We are thrilled to offer the first glossy community magazine and are encouraged by the positive response to the launches, and note that local and national advertising interest is soaring. Consumers will benefit enormously, receiving for the first time, a monthly community magazine in addition to their community newspaper, and advertisers have a glamorous vehicle to promote products and services to targeted readers," says Gill Randall, Joint Managing Director of NAB.
