Getaway is sweet sixteen
Getaway celebrates 16 years of publishing in September 2005 and is marking the occasion with a makeover of the magazine that takes account of reader feedback as well as the latest in publishing trends.
Publisher Stirling Kotze says everything has been examined - from the redesigned cover to a renewed focus on layout and editorial style: "Editorially the focus will be on fun for the family - great storytelling combined with practical holiday and travel information.
"Popular columns have been retained but are 'sexier', while new columns have been introduced. Even the destination directory and product guide have been revamped to make it easier for readers to find what they're looking for."
Aware of the ever-increasing cost of travel, the journalists have been briefed to intensify their search for local value-for-money destinations.
Readers will be able to share in the birthday festivities - more than R400 000 in prizes will be given away, including a double-cab SUV in the Spot the Getaway Vehicle competition, a trip to the Comores, a week-long holiday in the Drakensberg and a stay at Tuli Game Reserve. Subscribers stand to a win a two-week all-expenses-paid Flame Lily holiday to Mauritius and Zimbabwe.
