Eating in is selling out

New Media's annual food directory Eat In has enjoyed a 30% newsstand sales increase from 2004, while the market also grew significantly with the local food-and-home magazine category up 15% from last year - very much a reflection of global trends.

Publisher Irna van Zyl says: "As a result of this positive response we have decided to up the print run for the 2005/6 issue from 20 000 to 30 000, an increased margin of 50%, which will be distributed through 690 outlets nationally."

According to Eat In editor, Stefania Johnson, readers are profiled as South Africans who love to eat and entertain: "They range from weekend chefs who love cooking for friends and family, to fussy foodies who relish using the finest ingredients in their gourmet kitchens, to high-flyers who rely on suppliers of prepared food for their personal and corporate entertaining. Caterers, restaurateurs and food producers also use the guide extensively."

Winner of the 2003 Sappi PICA Award for the Best Consumer Commemorative Issue, Best Annual runner-up 2004 and winner of the Advantage Admag Award Best Annual 2003, the magazine has the added advantage of a 12-month shelf life.
