Parenting talk for your child in new mag

Alchemy Publishing, the parenting magazine publishers, are launching a new title called Your Child, aimed at parents of children between four and 12 years old. Managing director Liezl de Swardt explains: 'With Your Pregnancy addressing pregnant women and Your Baby aimed at parents of under threes, Your Child is a natural next step."

Says De Swardt: "It is in line with the trend towards cocooning and the resurgence of family values and activities, but will give this trend a new appeal and modern edge. We've been working on the concept for some time, and with the circulations of our three parenting titles on the rise, evidencing the buoyancy of the parenting market, the time is ripe now."

The new magazine, which will hit the streets in September this year and be published quarterly, will be edited by Kate Sidley, former editor of Your Baby.

"Today's parents are faced with significant issues and decisions. The education system is very changeable and complex. There are pressing concerns around discipline and child psychology. The issues are important and complex, and parents are looking for quality information. Your Child will give them the best and latest news and advice - information that is not being offered by any other South African magazine at present," Sidley explains.

"Parents of pre-primary and primary school children are also in an exciting and really fun period in their family's life. Your Child will inspire families to enjoy their time together, with activities, outings and fun things to do. The magazine will cover the lighter side of family life, from crafts and projects, books and movies to kids' fashion, cooking and décor. We will address all of these and more in a way that is topical, thought-provoking, insightful and very South African, giving parents fresh ideas for a happy, healthy family life."
