Top international tourist publication arrives in SA on Monday

Time Out Cape Town Visitors' Guide, the first local edition of the world's most recognisable travel and leisure magazine, will be on sale from Monday. The guide, also known as the international "travellers' bible", sees Cape Town join the ranks of other top tourist cities such as London, Paris and Athens, with its own sassy annual guide.

Published by Cape based New Media in glossy A4 magazine format, Time Out Cape Town Visitors' Guide will be on sale for R29.95 at bookstores and tourist outlets in and around the Mother City, up the Garden Route as well as Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

With specialist sections on sightseeing, shopping, dining, clubs, comedy, theatre, art, entertainment, sport and fun for the children, Sam Woulidge, editor of the new guide is proud of the guide's editorial integrity. "The guide provides comprehensive, accurate and honest information to help you decide how and where to spend your free time in the Mother City and surrounds."

In addition to providing insider information on what is hot and happening, the Guide also features 'not-to-be missed' old favourites. The 145-page guide gives both locals and Cape Town's five million annual tourists other useful information such as insights on Kaapse Kos (Cape food), a brief history of the city, a guide to common slang, where to spot ghosts, township tourism, superb cigar bars, sundowner spots, classic concerts and 'the global shopper's only-in-Cape town style wish list'.

In response to demand, Time Out Cape Town Visitors' Guide also includes a section for the gay and lesbian market. Attractions further afield are an added bonus with information on the wine routes, whale watching and the West Coast as well as Route 62 and the Garden Route. In a nutshell, it's all you need to know about Cape Town. Tips to help you get from A to B, accommodation suggestions and emergency services complete the guide making it an essential item in every household and hotel in the region.

Woulidge says it is great fun and a real privilege to work on the local version of one of the biggest international magazine brands and the team of local contributors has set out to capture the essence of Cape Town in a funky, entertaining way.

"As with all Time Out guides, the look and feel of the publication ties in with that of the other international Time Out brands. However, in this instance, the soul of Cape Town shines through. The content has real Cape flavour heightened by a host of local celebrities including Koos Kombuis, Marc Lottering, Pieter Dirk Uys and David Kramer who reveal what makes Cape Town their 'kind of town' and why local really is lekker."

Sheryl Ozinsky, Manager of Cape Town Tourism, says the guide will help promote Cape Town long before visitors even get here. "This is great news and long overdue! At last Cape Town - recently voted number five in the BBC's '50 places to see before you die' - now boasts its own local Time Out Guide, used and supported by all tourist authorities, hotels and the City of Cape Town."
