Print Media SA appoints new General Manager

Print Media SA, the body representing organised print publishers in South Africa, has appointed Natasha Stretton as General Manager with effect from 1 January 2003.

Stretton has a Masters Degree in Political Studies from Rhodes University and has worked in various training and education programmes including the Primary Science Programme, Norval's Pont Education Center and Jacana Education.

In May 1999 she was appointed to co-ordinate the PMSA's initiative to establish a development arm focussed on advancing the interests of small-scale media entrepreneurs. This eventually resulted in the establishment of the PMSA's Print Development Unit in February 1 2000, which she headed. The unit assisted more than 100 aspirant entrepreneurs to acquire basic business skills. The vast majority were from previously
disadvantaged backgrounds.

Stretton was also closely involved in the negotiations between PMSA and the Government regarding the establishment of the Media Development and Diversity Agency. The industry has in principle committed R30 m over five years to helping small-scale and community media projects get off the ground.

Stretton replaces Graham Langmead whose contract expires at the end of this year. Langmead has been appointed CEO of the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Circulations.

Connie Molusi, President of PMSA, said Ms Stretton had impressed the PMSA members with her dedication, organisational skills and networking capacity.

"We are pleased that she will be able to bring to our industry her knowledge and skills in the area of small-scale business development," said Molusi. "This is particularly important to an industry committed to growing the reading culture and extending participation in media ownership in South Africa."
