SA refiners seek gasoil for Jan-trade

Reuters Africa reports that refiners in South Africa are seeking nearly 80,000 tonnes of diesel for delivery in January through spot tenders, industry sources said on Tuesday, 3 January 2011. Chevron is seeking 30,000 tonnes of 500 ppm sulphur gasoil and 8,000 tonnes of 50 ppm sulphur gasoil for delivery over 10-14 January and 22-26 January into Cape Town, they said.

Total South Africa is seeking 40,000 tonnes of 500 ppm sulphur gasoil for delivery over Jan. 15-25 into Durban.

The reasons for the requirements are unclear, but one source said it could be spillover demand from the Christmas holiday period. Gasoil is used as transport fuel and for power generation in South Africa.
