CAN Craze competition concludes
"The structures can take any form, but creativity is crucial so we would like to encourage the learners to think outside the can", recommends Zimasa Velaphi, public relations and marketing manager of Collect-a-Can.
The cans used in the building of these structures need to be collected by the learners; after which they will be recovered by Collect-a-Can and processed for recycling. This process demonstrates the environmental benefits of collecting cans and shows schools and learners that recycling can be fun, while encouraging learners to be more eco-conscious.
"The CAN Craze Competition teaches learners that what may seem like trash, can be a valuable resource that can be re-used in their artwork and then recycled, prolonging the lifespan of the raw materials and preserving natural resources as well as energy", says Velaphi.
Photos of the completed structures need to be submitted to Collect-a-Can along with a completed entry form, which can be obtained from Collect-a-Can branches or from the website www.collectacan.co.za.
The three most creative structures, as chosen by a panel of judges, will each receive a share of the prize money; the winning structure will receive R30,000, the 2nd place winner will receive R20,000 and the 3rd place winner will receive R10,000.
"We are extremely impressed with the quality of entries we have received so far, and look forward to many more CAN Craze structures to capture our imagination", concludes Velaphi.
The competition runs until 30 September 2013.
