Motlanthe: SA 'must cultivate a taste' for locally manufactured products

According to The Citizen, South Africans have been encouraged to buy "Proudly South African" goods, as the festive season draws closer. Speaking at the launch of a proudly South African "Buy Local" summit in Johannesburg on Monday, 26 November 2012, Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said that purchasing local goods built the economy, and created new jobs too.

"All of us, as business leaders, organised labour and civil society, carry the responsibility to cultivate a taste for South African manufactured products," Motlanthe said, adding that government implemented policies to overcome pressing problems like poverty, inequality and unemployment.

More than 60 local businesses and organisations attended the summit and the expo, held to provide an opportunity for business owners to showcase their products and services, The Citizen reports.
