Wind energy converters for Suzlon's Cookhouse Project

Berlin, Germany-based PCS Power Converter Solutions announced in a statement that it has signed a supplier contract with Suzlon Wind Energy South Africa to supply Green Line 1000 reactive current converters for the Suzlon Cookhouse Project in South Africa's Eastern Cape province.

Cookhouse is one of the largest wind energy projects in South Africa and PCS will be supplying 66 converters in total. The planned wind farm should generate a total output of 135 MW. PCS is an independent manufacturer of power converters with a wealth experience, approximately 240 qualified employees and a turnover of EUR 63 million.

Last December, Suzlon received the go-ahead from the South African Minister for Energy to start delivering the wind turbines, each with an output of 2.1 MW, for the planned Cookhouse Wind Energy Farm. Already approved by SA's Department of Environmental Affairs, up to 200 wind turbines may be constructed in the future. The Green Line 1000 converters have already proven themselves in real-world tests in systems from various manufacturers with a total of 130 MW. The Suzlon Cookhouse Project is an important step for South Africa's quest for a future-oriented power supply, based on renewable energies.
