Durban old age home saves 64% on water heating bills

ThermoWise, a leading supplier of innovative energy saving solutions to the domestic, commercial and agricultural sectors, in conjunction with Eskom, will save an old age home in Durban over R1.6 million in electricity costs over the next five years, African electricity and energy industry website esi-africa.com reports.

Two years ago, ThermoWise sales director Bronwynn Fine says, Eskom was commissioned by an old age home in Durban to log and monitor the place's monthly hot water system electrical consumption, according to an ESI-Africa.com report.

ESI-Africa.com reports that Eskom and ThermoWise "recommended the installation of three air-to-water heat pumps" to optimise the old age home's electricity usage. "These heat pumps significantly increase the energy savings that already result from the existing solar system installed on the roof of the building." Whereas, she says, ThermoWise heat pumps have a guaranteed savings of 50% on electricity usage for water heating, "in this installation [...] savings of 64% have been achieved," as the maximum usage was reduced from an average load of 43.11 kW to 13.8 kW.
