Exports of white and yellow maize increase

White maize exports for the 2017/2018 marketing year are projected at 860,000 tonnes, which represents an increase of 46.40% compared to the 587,423 tonnes of the previous marketing year. Yellow maize exports are projected at 1,330 million tonnes, which represents a significant increase of 203.04% compared to the 438,879 tonnes of the previous marketing year.

In the period from 29 April to 3 November 2017, progressive white maize exports amount to 502,421 tonnes.

Major countries of white maize exports from South Africa: 2017/18 marketing year

• Kenya: 49.21% or 247,250 tonnes
• BLNS countries: 37.69% or 189,338 tonnes
• Uganda: 4.98% or 24,998 tonnes
• Mozambique: 6.05% or 30,393 tonnes
• Zimbabwe: 2.08% or 10,442 tonnes

There were no imports of white maize for the above mentioned period.

From 29 April to 3 November 2017, progressive yellow maize exports amount to 975,800 tonnes.

Major countries of yellow maize exports from South Africa: 2017/18 marketing year

• Japan: 52.78% or 514,988 tonnes
• Taiwan: 21.92% or 213,926 tonnes
• Republic of Korea: 16.37% or 159,693 tonnes
• BLNS countries: 7.39% or 72,090 tonnes
• Mozambique: 1.10% or 10,695 tonnes
• Angola: 0.19% or 1,863 tonnes
• Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: 0.17% or 1,656 tonnes
• Zimbabwe: 0.09% or 889 tonnes

There were no imports of yellow maize for the abovementioned period.
