The Wits School of Mining and Engineering has released its Annual Review 2012. The review reflects on the school's strategic plan which sets out 10 goals for the five year period 2010-2014, under Prof Fred Cawood's tenure, and the progress being made annually in meeting these objectives.

The stated Goals are:
Goal 1: Reduce student to staff ratios
Goal 2: Always have a grant-funded associate lecturer in the School, over and above the MQA Scheme
Goal 3: Increase the percentage of fully-sponsored students in the School
Goal 4: Manage student and staff populations towards acceptable demographic ratios
Goal 5: Review, on a five-yearly basis, undergraduate, postgraduate and certificate programmes for relevance
Goal 6: Build strong partnerships (internal and external)
Goal 7: Retain ECSA accreditation of the undergraduate programme
Goal 8: Improve student throughput in all programmes
Goal 9:Improve research output through research degrees and publications; and
